If you’re anything like me, budget traveling means you have two options: stay in a nice hotel in the crappy outskirts of your destination city, or stay in the city in a scary roach motel that most likely doubles as a brothel. Either option kind of takes the fun out of your vacation.

Luckily, there are now other options. And no, they don’t involve blowing your life savings. There are a handful of luxurious, posh hotels that are now offering guests a stay for under $250 a night.

India: In Goa, you can stay at The Sol, a twenty-room hotel with tranquil views of the Sinquerim River. Each room comes with a gorgeous antique four-poster bed and is designed by Indian fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani. Doubles go for $165. As for the city, it’s renowned for its beaches, architecture and history, which dates back to 8000-6000 BC. But don’t worry, the hotel is totally up-to-date.

Portugal: One of the best new places to stay in Lisbon is the Hotel Da Estrela. Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, the hotel boasts modern conveniences with antique, nineteenth-century charm. The reception desks are actually vintage stone counters from a chemistry lab, as the building used to be a school. Doubles go for $193 a night.

Denver, Colorado: Believe it or not, for only $235, you can stay at the Four Seasons Hotel. The 45-story building is located downtown and includes huge windows with views of the Rockies, a spa, outdoor pool and trendy steakhouse. Some rooms even have heated floors.

Chicago, Illinois: Talk about trendy. Chicago’s Longman & Eagle hotel is a year-old gastropub located in Chicago’s Logan Square. The rooms include original art, brick walls, and Apple TVs programmed with videos from local bands. The place looks more like a cool city loft than it does a hotel room. It’s kind of a hipster haven, as instead of the traditional champagne or wine, they offer a minibar stocked with PBR. But little goodies like a token for free whiskey seems to make it worthwhile. Prices range from $75-$225, and Room 55 has a freestanding tub with a street view.

Spain Hotel Viura in Villabueva De Alava offers rooms starting at $175 a night. Just passing by, the 33 room-hotel just looks like a bunch of squares randomly sitting on top of each other. Each room has a sleek, industrial feel, with gorgeous views of the small town and mountains.
