Celebrate National Pancake Day With Free Pancakes at IHOP

It’s probably the one holiday that doesn’t involve drinking. I guess it could if you really want it to.

It’s National Pancake Day, a sweet holiday celebrated all across the nation. Especially if you have an IHOP nearby. And who doesn’t?

The International House of Pancakes is offering free pancakes today only, but customers are encouraged to make donations to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. In exchange for their charitable contribution, customers will receive a complimentary short stack. A short stack consists of three pancakes, by the way.

And yes, the restaurant's been busy.

"Depending on the restaurant, it's double or triple the typical day's business," Patrick Lenow, a spokesman for DineEquity, the corporate arm of IHOP told the Christian Science Monitor.

Despite giving away free stuff, today is actually the chain’s most profitable day of the year, because most people order food to go along with the pancakes. It’s not easy to say no to bacon.

New England Patriots Wide Receive Chad Ochocinco Tweeted that he was chowing down on free pancakes at his local IHOP today.

"I stayed within my three pancake limit boss," he tweeted to a follower, who asked how many he'd eaten. When Ocho was asked how much of a donation he left for the hospital, he tweeted "a thousand."

The ‘National Pancake Day’ offer runs from 7:00am until 10:00pm today. IHOP says that it’s collected over $5.35 million for charities and given over 10 million buttermilk pancakes since it began the annual fundraising event seven years ago.
