Nothing Can Stop Paula Deen's Overindulging...Not Even Diabetes

The Food Network star, who has made a name for herself for drenching all of her already-fatty food in “butter y’all,” has just announced that she’s been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.
And she doesn’t plan to let it stop her.
"I will never use a substitute for butter. Margarine is one molecule away from eating plastic," Deen, 64, tells Parade.com of using the staple in her diet.
So basically, her logic here is that because it’s not margarine, butter is healthy. Y’all might as well be eatin’ one of them fancy ol’ asparagus sticks or whatever they call ‘em.
"If I'm going to eat that type of food, it's going to be the real deal. There is a good chance that I can cut down on the amount of butter now that I'm aware, but will I cut butter out of my life completely? No. I will take measurements to manage it."
How about actually taking measurements? With an actually measuring cup? As in, not just tossing in sticks of butter into your witch’s brew like you’re a conducting an orchestra?
So how exactly does she plan to deal with her Type 2 diabetes? By cutting back on Sweet Tea and taking walks.
Deen apparently wants to “show others that managing diabetes does not have to stop you from enjoying the things you love.”
Two thoughts here. 1) Diabetes might not be able to stop you, but looming death can; and 2) Really? You “love” the deep-fried concoctions you make so much that you’re willing to take your own life for them? Because most married people don’t love each other with that kind of fervor.
I think we’ve seriously underestimated how unconditionally Paula Deen loves unhealthy food. Although the cook says she advises her viewers to eat unhealthy in “moderation.”
“I have always encouraged moderation. On my show I share with you all these yummy fattening recipes, but I tell people, ‘In moderation. In moderation,’”
But when you’re wrapping mac n’ cheese in bacon and then deep frying it (seriously), I think your definition of “moderation” might be skewed.
Anthony Bourdain talked to Eater yesterday to address the issue:
“When your signature dish is hamburger in between a doughnut, and you’ve been cheerfully selling this stuff knowing all along that you’ve got Type 2 Diabetes… It’s in bad taste if nothing else.”
