No, I’m not drunk typing. That means Happy New Year in Chinese, and today starts the celebrations, which run until February 6th. Chinese New Year celebrations are filled with pomp, circumstance, bells, whistles, and most importantly, big ass dragons. And considering this is the Year of the Dragon, expect an even bigger ass dragon.
The Venetian and The Palazzo are ringing in the Chinese New Year in Las Vegas with a whole lineup of awesome attractions, including a 128-foot, fire-breathing best of a dragon.
Kicking off Monday, January 23 at 1pm, The Dragon Dance will begin at The Venetian, making its way through the casino to The Waterfall & Atrium Gardens of The Palazzo, where the unveiling of the dragon will take place.
Then, on Tuesday, January 24 at 1pm, another Dragon Dance will take place at The Grand Canal Shoppes and The Shoppes at The Palazzo. The Fan Dance will begin on Wednesday at 1pm.
The coolest part? This massive dragon actually breathes fire. At 8,000 pounds, the dragon will breathe fire daily at 1pm and 5pm from January 23 to February 5. Guests can come view it in all its glory, suspended above The Waterfall and Atrium Gardens of The Palazzo. Dancers and authentic Chinese music will accompany the parade. There will also be firecrackers and an eye painting ceremony!
In the Chinese Zodiac, people born in 1904, 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, and 2012 are considered to be born in the Year of the Dragon. It’s considered the luckiest year in the Chinese Zodiac.
