Peuvian-Asian Restaurant Osaka is a Hollywood Hotspot
December 19, 2011 by: KRISTIN WONG

Suaya, who’s also involved in Los Angeles mainstays like Boho and the Surly Goat, fell in love with the original Osaka restaurant in Peru. He wanted his Los Angeles incarnation to be so authentic, in fact, that he flew in some of their staff from Lima to L.A., in order to train the new staff. Now that’s dedication.
The restaurant boasts a sushi bar, ceviche bar and pisco garden. Who knew so many things I loved could be in one place?! For those unfamiliar, Pisco is a Peruvian booze staple that’s best described as a grape brandy. Basically, it’s to Peru what Tequila is to Mexico.
Kristofer Keith of Spacecraft designed the 7,000 square foot venue, giving it a gorgeous garden feel, complete with water walls, stone paths and tall, indoor trees. The pisco garden includes flavors like vanilla, tamarind and chile.
Now for the menu. Suaya said he sent his head sushi chef to train in Peru for a month.
"I didn't want to bring a chef to the restaurant," says Suaya. "I wanted to bring the whole country of Peru."
Signature dishes include the Osaka Wok: “Wok cooked rice or wok vegetables”; the Shiromi Wrap: “Banana leaf wrapped white fish, anticucho sauce, coconut milk”; and the Tuna Ribs, among others.
And desserts are just as mouth watering, with Banana Spring Rolls, Te Brulee, a red tea cream brulee, and Mango Sushi. Their pisco sour menu includes flavors like chicha, cinnamon, passion fruit, green tea, citrus and blueberry. All of the above, please.
Reviews for the venue have been amazing, with Huate Living claiming Osaka has the "best ceviche you’ve ever tasted in your life!" It’s definitely worth a sample.
