Usher's Wine Bar Closes Down

Who knew Usher had a wine bar in Atlanta? Well apparently not too many, since the place has already shut down.

He opened The Grape in 2006, and had grandiose plans of taking his brand worldwide. Not so much. The bistro/bar failed to re-open its doors after New Years, and didn’t get their liquor license renewed. Not much you can do at a wine bar with no booze…

Usher’s parent company for the business, Grape Enterprise Group, also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Ouch! Well maybe this will teach Usher a lesson to just stick with what he does best! He’s still one of our faves. And just because you like wine, doesn’t mean you need to open your own bar!

San Diego is bringing Hollywood to its nightlife. Nightlife entrepreneurs Rande and Scott Gerber have launched their first San Diego venue at Hard Rock Hotel San Diego called Moonstone Lounge and Sweetwater Saloon.

This new hotspot is located in the hotel at the entrance to the city’s renowned Gaslamp Quarter. The venue embodies cutting-edge interiors, fashionable clientele and signature cocktails to create a setting of unparalleled style and flare.

Sweetwater Saloon is more laid back located off the lobby of Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, at 207 Fifth Avenue and it exudes a more casual atmosphere for conversation over cocktails.

As for drinks, this spot has designed tables, which feature an individual beer tap, allowing guests to choose their brand and serve themselves without leaving the table. Pure genius!

Celebrity favorites include “The Hills” star Lauren Conrad who hosted an exclusive "End of Summer Bash." Remember next time you are in SD to check out these two hot spots.

Nelly Opens St. Louis Sports Bar

Nelly is the latest celebrity to get into the hospitality business. He's already conquered the fashion world with his infamous Apple Bottom jeans, as well as Vokal clothing line for men, so this is his latest venture.

He teamed up with a development company in his hometown of St. Louis to purchase a city block and build a sports bar. It's called the Skybox. He tells popmatters.com, "I always thought St. Louis never really had a sports bar that was a little hip, where I would want to go, something more youthful. I wanted to implement that feel with a more contemporary vibe. I'm gearing it toward the young sports fan, as opposed to the more traditional older guy sitting on the couch.

And it's not a thing where it's just my name out front. This is my spot. It's not like they took my name and are just giving me a percentage of it. Every brick laid in this place is Nelly's brick."

But this new venture doesn't mean Nelly's done with fashion. He bought a clothing line from the 80s that he plans on revamping. He says, "It's just a thing where I like to open up businesses that fit the mold of what it is that I'm doing. I also acquired the license for Troop, so I'm re-launching that clothing line that was real popular back in the '80s. We're just trying to make things happen on a different level."
