Today the White House held its 134th annual Easter Egg Roll, which involved rolling a bunch of Easter Eggs with a wooden stick. Am I the only one who would be disappointed to show up and not see a single Eggroll?
President Obama, along with First Lady Michelle Obama hosted, in addition to their daughters Malia, 13 and Sasha, 10. And celebrity chefs abounded. There was Andrew Zimmern, Marcus Samuelsson and a slew of Top Chef alums, including Paul Qui, Richard Blais and Carla Hall. Along with the White House chefs, these foodie celebs prepared healthy eating demonstrations in the ‘Play with your Food’ station.
Other celebrity guests included Julianne Moore, Michelle Kwan, and the Harlem Globetrotters. Random, yes. But it worked.
The White House Easter Egg Roll was started by President Rutherford B. Hayes back in 1878, and the tradition includes a bunch of games for the kids. This year, Michelle used it as an opportunity to educate families on healthy eating and exercise as part of her Let’s Move! Campaign.
President Obama introduced First Lady Michelle as “the powerhouse of the White House, the one truly in charge, as Malia, Sasha and Bo all know.”
In case you haven’t heard, Bo Obama is the family dog. And he’s pretty cute.
“It’s a beautiful day. Perfect weather. We are so excited to have you all here,” the first lady told the crowd.
From there, the egg-roll race commenced, and then the president read ‘Where the Wild Things Are.’ At one point, Bo howled as the rest of the guests made animal noises during the reading. Oh, that Bo.
